Saarbrücker Erklärung zur Nanotechnologie
Die interdisziplinär ausgerichtete Konferenz gab einen Überblick über Anwendungsfelder und Potenziale der Nanotechnologie und diskutierte die daraus resultierenden ethischen Fragen. Die gemeinsame Erklärung fasst den wissenschaftlichen Ertrag der Konferenz zusammen und richtet einen Appell an alle, die aktiv an der Gestaltung einer ethisch vertretbaren Nanotechnologie mitwirken wollen.
Saarbrücken Manifesto on nanotechnology
The aim of the interdisciplinary conference was to give an overview of the fields of application and potentialities of nanotechnology and to discuss the ethical questions arising as a result. The speakers and the organisers of the conference have composed a declaration to summarise the scientific output of the conference and to call on all those, who wish to actively participate in shaping an ethical nanotechnology.
Was kann, soll und darf Nanotechnologie?
Nanotechnologie dringt mit hoher Geschwindigkeit in viele Bereiche unseres Alltags vor. Sie eröffnet neue Erwartungs- und Hoffnungshorizonte. Gleichzeitig wirft sie Fragen auf, die unser individuelles Selbstverständnis und das unserer Gesellschaft berühren.
Wie wird die Nanotechnologie unsere Zukunft verändern – unser Zusammenleben, unsere Arbeits- und Konsumwelt? Was wird aus unseren sozialen Sicherungssystemen? Und welches Maß an Veränderung sind wir bereit zu akzeptieren?
Namhafte Experten haben diese Fragen auf der Konferenz SIZE MATTERS 2009 diskutiert – aus den Perspektiven von Naturwissenschaft und Medizin, Philosophie und Theologie, Ökonomie, Rechtswissenschaft und Soziologie.

How far should nano influence our lives?
Nanotechnology is penetrating many areas of our daily lives at a high speed, opening up new horizons of expectation and hope. At the same time, it is raising questions which affect our conceptions of both individual and societal existence.
In what way will nanotechnology affect social life, the working and consumer environment, and our welfare systems?And to what extent are we prepared to accept such changes?
Prominent experts discussed these issues at the SIZE MATTERS 2009 conference from the perspective of the natural sciences, medicine, philosophy, theology and law. The presentations and the book of abstract are available in the menu “Presentations”.
